So, my future sister-in-law’s birthday is tomorrow and I’m going to be on the road. Since I knew I wouldn’t have time to send something tomorrow, I got online today and sent her an electronic gift card to a clothing store. Apparently, I sent it to the wrong Lauren Santore and have been making the mistake for a while…
Here’s our email exchange:
Hello Coty,
I’m afraid there has been some mistake. Is it possible that you know another Lauren Santore? I am from Massachusetts…
A few weeks back I received an email of wedding pictures, I am certain I had never met the lovely couple. -I’m not sure if you recall but I had written back explaining that I believe that there may have been an error. The pictures were beautiful… I felt I had a window into the lives of such a cute couple on a very magical day. Its so strange, I mean other than spam, how often do you receive personal emails that are not intended for you? Today I received a birthday gift… Its not my birthday and I am certain I do not know a Coty Graf intimately enough deserve a gift.
This is all so bizarre especially because anthropologie is one of my favorite stores! .. it just wouldn’t be right, however, not to tell you I am not the intended recipient of the gift and there is no doubt this person deserves their thoughtful gift. Do you have any idea how this could have happened? I’m so curious. I will forward along the email/gift card as well.
Look forward to your response.
Warm regards,
Lauren

Lauren,
Well, HELLO! I should probably introduce myself. My name is Coty and I am the lunatic that has been emailing you photos of my wedding and birthday gifts. Please forgive me. Lauren Santore, of San Diego, is my sister-in-law and I apparently got her email address wrong. Oops! In any case, please make use of that birthday gift (Happy early/late Birthday)!!! I appreciate your honesty and just hope that you’ll pay it forward!
Best,
Your new BFF -Coty
Hello BFF,
You are too kind, I couldn’t possibly take that gift card! I’ve already paid it forward in a sense… I had a particularly hard day the day I received that email and the love in those pictures was so palpable having had a bit of a bad breakup not too long ago, it was refreshing to see a happily ever after. Everyone glowed in those pictures…so sweet. I can only guess your sister-in-law is incredibly cool with such a great name-make sure she gets that gift card!

I love the curveballs that life throws us. I have already re-purchased another gift card and sent it to the “other” Lauren. Please use the one I sent you! You’re email was so sweet. Obviously I don’t know any details about your break-up, but I’m 30 and this is my 2nd marriage. I have no doubt that great things are in store for you…I had to get it wrong before I could get it right 🙂
I live in Dallas and, should you ever find yourself in town, please email me! We should do dinner!
Seriously.
So, use the giftcard. Enjoy it…it was meant to be and we can’t argue with fate
—–the conversation has since continued, but you get the gist—–
I think I’ve accidentally made a new friend and, to be quite honest, it’s been the highlight of my week.
My regional meetings wrapped up today and I leave tomorrow morning for a night in, luxurious, Longview, TX. Should be a riot…NOT!
Blessings.
