I’m sitting at a lovely restaurant in Shreveport. There are opera singers, ballerinas and cocktails…can’t ask for much more than that. Typically, I go to my hotel and have dinner at their steakhouse, but I got tired of pretending that the food was good so I decided to have an adventure. I got on my urbanspoon app and found my way to Wine Country Bistro. It’s not far from downtown(where I stay) and the drive is absolutely beautiful. I passed neighborhoods with huge trees that lined wide streets and framed the horizon in every direction. The houses were old and grand. It’s a fantastic area and, until today, one that I never knew existed. My meal has been okay, which is better than I would have gotten at the hotel. I started with a glass of proseco, which I’m still sipping. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. I ordered a salad from the nightly specials which had Bibb lettuce, avocado, grapefruit, red onion and not enough lump crab meat. I was intrigued by the fried green tomatoes and since I’m on the company’s dime, I ordered them. The were not what I expected, not bad by any means, but just different. They were sweet. They came with a terribly bad remoulade. I’m glad I tried them because now, I know I’m not really missing anything. My entree was pan-sautéed trout amandine with, what else? Mashed potatoes and green beans. Trout – okay. Green beans – greasy. Mashed potatoes – can’t go wrong there. I’m finishing my adventure with butterscotch pot de creme and 2 totally dead phones. Looking forward to a shower and a new release movie that, yes, the company will also pay for. Might as well make the most of this! Blessings.
