I’ve really enjoyed the last couple of days. My routine has been great for me and the hustle and bustle of the holidays has given me some extra things to do like shop (which I love) and wrap presents (which I also love). I’ve also been trying some new recipes for dinner and I have to share a little story about Monday night.
I’ve mentioned this before, but I rarely have mishaps in the kitchen. I’m not saying that I’m Julia Child or anything, but my kitchen disasters are few and far between. Apparently not this year. On Monday night, I was making a roasted red pepper pasta. It’s from my Weight Watchers cookbook (I’m trying to lose 25 lbs. in 3 months). It looked delicious and everything was going well. The recipe called for 1 jar of roasted red peppers. The only thing I could find said “Hot – Red Peppers & Garlic.”
I started to make the sauce and it was just about ready to be pureed in the blender. I dipped my finger into it and tasted it. It was hot, like “heat” hot. My mouth was on fire and I felt a rush of sweat throughout my body.
Just then, Wade came downstairs and I said, “You’ll like this. It’s gonna make you sweat.”
He quickly replied that he’s a man and no food is too hot for him. I told him to taste it. By this time, the ingredients had been pureed and I thought that surely it would have cooled down a bit, especially since I added some half & half. He dipped his finger into the blender and put it in his mouth. His eyes got so big and he immediately coughed.
He obviously agreed that this was the hottest thing he’s ever eaten, but I convinced the both of us that it would be much better once it was tossed with the farfalle pasta. So, I continued on my doomed dinner path. I quickly tossed the sauce and the pasta and we sat at the table to eat. We do this every night and I really like it. It’s not easy to eat together, but it’s something that we’ve just naturally done and I really enjoy that time together.
So, we’re eating the pasta and faces are red, we practically have tears running down our faces; partially from the heat and partially from laughing. We poured grated parmesan all over that pasta to try to tame the spices, but no luck. I ended up throwing the pasta out and we went to Chipotle.
Now, back to my routine and stuff. I really feel like I’m just waiting for this HTM job. For those of you that don’t know, HTM is Home Team Marketing and it’s a young company that matches up corporate sponsors to high school athletic events around the country. I feel really good about this and have my second interview on Tuesday morning at 9:30. I’ll be meeting with the co-founder of the company. I like what they do, I like their mission, I like what I’d be doing and I like that it’s still in the sports industry. It seems to be a perfect fit, but I know that if it doesn’t happen, it’s not God’s will and something better awaits.
This whole experience has been a great lesson in patience. It is definitely an area where I was lacking. I’ve prayed for patience my whole life and have finally been given the opportunity to show it off 🙂
