I walked at lunch today. I’ll tell ya…my knees have been killing me. I don’t know what the problem is. I was out of town this weekend, which was supposed to be my 20 mile run. Apparently, it rained enough for TNT to cancel training. That’s good news for me because, now, I’ll be able to run 20 miles with my group next weekend. I’m thankful for that.
I had a lovely trip last week that wrapped up on Saturday. I’m kind of disappointed that I didn’t take any pictures, but I sure did relax. I took a nap every day and it sure felt great!!! I also ate some great food and got to celebrate a birthday (my favorite thing in the world)! On the flight there, I picked up a book called “Eating Animals.” It was a very interesting read and it definitely made me think deeply about food sources and my values when it comes to animal welfare. That being said, I am now a vegetarian. I won’t lie, I wish I would have waited until Thanksgiving to make this decision, but I feel strongly about it. I’ve dabbled with vegetarianism for several years and if this isn’t the last time I “go veg,” I know it’s only a matter of time until it sticks for good. I don’t have a problem eating meat. I enjoy steak and lobster, but it’s just not necessary in my diet. Eating should be meaningful and deliberate. Ordering whatever we want, whenever we want it, is something that we take for granted. There is nothing deliberate about going through a drive-through.
I don’t want to be preachy here, but if you don’t know the facts about your food, where it comes from and what is actually in it (take animal welfare out of the equation), you are doing a disservice to yourself and countless others. When we order at a restaurant or shop at a grocery store, our purchases are votes by proxy for or against factory farming. There is no reason not to make informed decisions. I’m certainly not saying “don’t eat meat.” I am saying, “know what’s in your meat and ‘vote’ for alternatives to factory farming.”
I can’t believe that this marathon is 20 days away. That seems so close, but it also seems like a million years from now. I’m sure the time will fly! I just want to get it over with…kinda like this week. Today has gone by fairly slowly at work. Tomorrow, I’m going to work a day in the warehouse, picking and packing orders. It should be a good learning experience and help pick up the pace of the work work. Isn’t it funny, the week before an exciting week comes up it just seems to drag!
This weekend is TX/ou and I’m actually not all that excited about it. Surely, I’ll have a different story on Saturday, but we’ll see. I think I have way too much going on right now to get pumped up about college football. That reminds me…my NFL Fantasy team lost again this week. I’m 1 and 2. I HATE losing. I should have won this week. I only lost by 2 points. 2 points!!! UGHHHHH. Oh well.
